Kick off the new Lunar New Year with the Southwest Airlines Mini Procession and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with the Mayor and other city officials.

Experience what the original Chinese New Year Parade was like 150 years ago while you sneak a peek at what the Year of the Snake Parade will bring.

SATURDAY, February 2, 2013 10:30 A.M.

SAN FRANCISCO:  Southwest Airlines, title sponsor of the Chinese New Year Festival and Parade, along with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce invite you to attend a parade preview to open festivities celebrating the Lunar New Year. The mini parade begins at historic St. Mary's Square, follows the original parade route down Grant Avenue and proceeds to the Flower Fair's main stage on Washington Street below Grant Avenue. Following the procession, City dignitaries will join honored guests in officially opening the festival with a ribbon cutting ceremony. (Estimated time for the ribbon cutting ceremony 10:45 a.m.)

Lion dancing, Chinese giant puppets elaborately costumed and Chinese deities will be in Chinatown to help kick off the new year. You can even have your picture taken with one of the Chinese deities.

Bring your family and friends and spend the day in Chinatown at the annual Flower Fair You will find over 80 booths and concessions where you can purchase new year's flowers, plants, fruits and candies.
