The San Francisco Symphony ushers in the Year of the Tiger at its 10th Anniversary Chinese New Year Concert & Celebration on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 3:00 pm.
Combining music, family and tradition, this afternoon event will feature a unique blend of Eastern and Western music, instruments, and artists. Highlights include pianist Haochen Zhang, 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition Gold Medalist, performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and SF Symphony Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas conducting Grand Pas de Deux from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake featuring Yuan Yuan Tan and Tiit Helimets, principal dancers from the San Francisco Ballet.
Tickets to the concert also include free access to the pre-performance Festival Reception featuring lion dancing, Chinese drumming, children’s activities, Chinese desserts, savories, and teas. Guests may also enjoy the post-concert Imperial Ball, an elegant seated feast, inspired by the customs and traditions of the New Year.
