We’re thrilled to have Disney and Pixar’s Original Movie TURNING RED at our Community Street Fair this year!
Turning Red follows 13-year-old Mei Lee as she navigates the chaos of adolescence while also finding out that she turns into a red panda when her emotions run too high! This will be the feature directorial debut for Chinese Canadian Academy Award® winner director, artist and animator, Domee Shi. Shi is best known for directing the Oscar-winning animated short, Bao.
In developing the story for the film, Shi drew inspiration from her own life, from the importance of food in Asian culture to anecdotal experiences from her childhood, which she hopes will resonate with audiences.

Highlighting the changing relationship between a mother and her daughter, especially with generational and cultural differences coming into play (i.e. Eastern vs. Western influence, parents vs. friends, etc.), Turning Red reflects a realistic view on life through the diversity of its characters. Mei’s changes in her coming-of-age story allow reflection on the changes a new year brings, as well as the importance of finding balance in life.
Be sure to stop by the TURNING RED booth at the Community Street fair on Saturday, February 19 and Sunday, February 20 to take a photo at the step and repeat and get a free mini movie poster and a stress ball. TURNING RED will be launching exclusively on Disney + on March 11, 2022. Watch the trailer below.
